Customized Swim Fin - Footprint Side Project

As a spinoff of our regular work with Footprint, we are actively pursuing a functional prototype for this concept. Anyone who has ever strapped on a pair of swim fins, whether diving, bodysurfing, bodyboarding or just swimming around a pool, knows that your feet simply don't fit into them properly. Cramping, charlie horses, and cuts to the heel are all common from extended use. After all, surf and swim fin designs have been manufactured in the same fashion since the original Churchill came out in the late 1940's. We believe it's time for a change.

The next best thing in the evolution of 3D printing: DLP/SLA resin systems such as Carbon 3D's CLIP system. In the near future we will finally be able to print non-porous, waterproof polymers that exhibit the same qualities as molded polyurethane.

Using a combination of Fusion 360 and Alias, we have been modeling concepts like this to send out to our rapid manufacturing bureaus. The thorn in our side is the fact that polyurethane rubber, in its common molded form, has not had the ability to be manufactured by rapid manufacturing until very recently.
